IDML v15 (InDesign CC 2019+)
Native package with mimetype, designmap, resources, master spread, spreads, and per-frame stories.
Fonts are referenced by name. InDesign will substitute anything you don't have installed locally.
Update an existing InDesign file
Your
.idml is exported with XML tags on every data-driven text frame. After changing text or prices here, download the data-only XML and merge it into the document you already laid out — no re-export needed.- In InDesign: View → Structure → Show Structure.
- Structure panel menu → Import XML…, pick the downloaded file.
- Tick Merge Content and Create Link, then OK.
- Later updates: re-download, then Links panel → Update Link.
Merging updates the text of rows that already exist. Added or removed rows need a fresh full export, since merging never adds pages.
Image bundle
Fetch every image mapped in your layouts and pack them into a single
Links/ ZIP. Drop it next to your .idml so InDesign relinks automatically.
